We don’t often reveal the theme of a slot game in the title of a review, but we’re going to do so here. We think the theme may well be obvious to many, as Pulsar does tend to drive you in that direction.
Journeying into space allows for wider variety with the theme, the presentation, and many other slot game elements too. So, how does Pulsar stack up? Let’s see if this is a promising choice to try.
Do we know the identity of the creator?
Not exactly, but we do know it comes from the minds of the Realtime Gaming team.
You can play a demo version first
And if you have never heard of Pulsar before reading this review, we do suggest this is the ideal path to take.
Set in space and doing well with the theme
Any space-set theme is going to be a thrill. Darker tones are obviously appearing here, all in place to make the stars twinkle around the reels.
This is a 2D design
Even though the game doesn’t treat us to 3D graphics, it’s hard to find fault with the design of this game. Those twinkling stars are great to look at as things get underway.
Getting started: Here’s how to play Pulsar
You may not realize there are five reels in this one, as each symbol appears as a hexagon. That requires a stagged approach to the reels. Once you’ve seen how it works, you’ll realize this is a regular five-reel slot. One thing that is notably absent here is the progressive jackpot facility.
If you love games to have wilds and scatters, you’re going to miss them here, as neither come into play. However, there are various Neutron Stars to look for, which we’ll come to later in this review.
Cascading wins occur whenever you manage to score a prize. All symbols involved in the prize will disappear, allowing the ones above to drop into those spaces. Other symbols then fall into the grid to complete the 15-icon formation once more. If this leads to another prize, the same thing continues until no prizes are delivered.
Playing on fixed lines
You probably know that fixed lines mean all of them are playable, with no chance of deselecting anything. There are 20 lines in action here.
Bets in Pulsar slots
Don’t worry about those fixed paylines because RTG always supplies lots of varied coins to play with. Most players should spot the ideal wager to use here.
Paytable details in Pulsar
Learning how to play a slot game is an important part of the process. It means you can work out which symbols are going to bring you the most impressive prizes… if you can find them, of course.
Bonus Neutron Star action
This is the highlight of the game. four versions of the star can crop up, each shown in a varied color. They drop randomly on any spin, with the color shown determining what happens next. Each separate pattern is shown inside the paytable too, giving you another good reason to check that out before you play.
These stars don’t explode on appearance either. Each one carries one of three numbers on it – one, two, or three. This is the quantity of spins remaining to play before that star explodes. It then takes out assorted symbols depending on the color of the star.
No free spins here
This may surprise you, but those Neutron Stars get the lion’s share of the action here. Once you get underway, you won’t even think about the spins.
RTP for Pulsar slots
The return to player value tells us how much the game should pay out over its lifetime. The higher the percentage the better the return should be. However, RTG doesn’t add this information to its paytable, nor to any other portion of the game.
How high could our rating go for the space-themed Pulsar slot?
We’re giving this one eight points out of the maximum of 10. While there are no wilds, scatters, or free games, the Neutron Stars are the big draw here. Supplying a twist on the standard slot game is something RTG does well, and that is borne out here too.
Look for all the prizes in the paytable
There may not be any progressive jackpots here, but there are some lower-valued prizes dotted around in the paytable. It looks as if you can snag a prize worth 150x your bet as the biggest potential reward.
Pulsar offers plenty of entertainment
Watch those stars to see what may happen on the next spin. For a demo game to pass the time with, you could pick something way worse than this delight!
Play for real for a few cents per spin
Check the range of wagers you can work with if you do decide to play the real Pulsar slot game. This is a great space-set game to check out, for sure.
Mobile space gaming is fine too
Take your Android or iOS tablet or smartphone with you and you can head into outer space whenever you wish with Pulsar.
